The 10 New Attractions That Opened at Walt Disney World in 2017

Though 2017 was a year filled with closures, it was also one that saw even more new attraction openings as well. From new nighttime spectaculars at three different parks to newly opened rides, we continue our series of 2017 retrospectives with a look at everything that opened during a busy year at Walt Disney World

1. Rivers of Light

After months of delays, technical difficulties, and false starts, Rivers of Light finally debuted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Friday, February 17, 2017. The show wowed guests with its technical wizardry and amazing soundtrack, but in the months since it has been open, Disney has made several changes to the show to try and make it a little more appealing for guests. And though these changes have been well-received, rumors persist that Disney is thinking about a total revamp in 2018 or 2019 that could make dramatic changes to this show, possibly including popular Disney characters.

2. Miss Adventure Falls

Miss Adventure Falls, the new family-friendly ride at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon opened on March 12th, and is unique among its peers, as it is a story-driven experience that revolves around the fictitious Captain Mary Oceaneer, a treasure-hunting heroine who got stranded at Typhoon Lagoon years ago by a rogue storm. During guests’ journey through Captain Oceaneer’s past, they will be able to see artifacts that Captain Mary Oceaneer collected on her many treasure hunts around the world as they zoom by.

3. Star Lord and baby Groot Guardians of the Galaxy Meet and Greet

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 characters Star Lord and Baby Groot began meeting guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios inside the former One Man’s Dream attraction (Now Walt Disney Presents) back in May. This new Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 meet and greet is still available, and it is unknown if this attraction will close in 2018 to make way for something else, or will be sticking around for the long haul.
